We have implemented a 5 point plan to deliver a better health service for you.
- 1. Open Door Policy - Increase access for patients to healthcare by utilising pharmacists earlier in the health lifecycle of the patient.
- 2. Access to chronic disease management - patients have access to professional assessment through us by monitoring of potential symptoms and identification of pre-disposure to certain illnesses.
- 3. Provision of Vaccination – patients to have the choice to receive vaccines such as the flu vaccine through their local pharmacy.
- 4. Medicines Management – Patients have access to a strategic, on-going medicines management regime where pharmacists check for drug overlaps and monitor supply of medication s provided to the patient through Government Schemes.
- 5. Health Promotion – Patients to benefit from health promotion services through pharmacies including smoking cessation, weight management and diabetic and cholesterol screening to help create a healthier society overall.
Emergency Contraception
Emergency contraception or "The Pill", is available without prescription in Dargan's Pharmacy. The pharmacist on duty will consult with you to ensure it is not potentially harmful or unnecessary to you.
Here is some information on emergency contraception
- - Emergency contraception is often referred to as "the morning after pill"
- - It is a single tablet that can be taken up to 72 hours after unprotected intercourse
- - It consists of high dose progesterone
- - Very few side effects
- - Cost €70 (consultation and tablet included)
How it Works
The pill works in a variety of ways:
- - May cause delay in ovulation
- - Slows down the passage of sperm
- - Slows down the movement of the egg
- - Create hormones changes in the womb which may prevent a fertilised egg attaching itself to the lining of the womb
